Blog #5 Arizona Education

What I got from the article "Ducey: Why Arizona needs more college grads." By AZcentral is that Ducey is putting more money towards education hoping to emphasize it and we can improve our education as a state. He hopes to have 60% of Arizona citizens to have some level of education after high school by 2030. While yes I think this is a good idea I also feel like there are some flaws.

42% of Arizona citizens have education after high school while 2 out of 3 jobs are looking to hire people with some sort of degree or certificate. It's understandable that a workplace would want someone with higher education as they don't need to be taught as much compared to someone without any education however a majority of Arizona citizens have high school as their highest form of education.

I also feel as if a high school diploma isn't enough now, which it's not. In the 90s a high school diploma could get you a good paying job but compared to todays world a high school diploma can only get you a minimum wage job or a job in the fast-food place. Overtime education standards have raised tremendously while for Arizona, the education itself hasn't been improved. From my personal experience speaking and having other students in my classes that went to different high schools, we were taught different things and it interesting how much it can differ.

It would be a better idea for money to be put into high schools and focused on their quality of education. As it's not seen as enough for most job employers, an improvement needs to be made. While I understand having people go to college and graduate it's great for Arizona's economy, our focus should be more on saving the citizens their time and money. If we focus on high school education quality, we won't need college as much but of course the state won't make as much money. This is a tough situation as me and the people in my age group feel like todays society either thinks you go to college, into the army or work a full on job. Another view people tend to have is you will never find a good paying job if you don't go to college. I feel like a happy middle can be reached with money being put towards both high school and college as high school is vital and more important, but if someone wants to go to college and get higher education they should have the advantages of that in getting a job.
